Current Issues in Transportation: the Case of New York City and Beyond
By Professor Robert E. Paaswell, Interim President, City College of New
      York

Professor Robert Paaswell will discuss recent research and highly
contested policy discussions on megaprojects in New York City, a new Long
Island intermodal facility and the ongoing crisis of funding public
transit. He will highlight successes and challenges that may be
transferable to the development of projects and plans for other areas.

Dr. Robert Paaswell is Interim President of City College of New York and
Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering. Dr. Paaswell is a prominent
national leader in the fields of public transportation and urban
infrastructure. As a former Executive Director of the Chicago Transit
Authority, Dr. Paaswell managed one of the largest and most complex urban
transportation systems in the nation with a workforce of 13,000 and a
budget of $1 billion. He also has served as Director of the federally
supported University Transportation Research Center (UTRC), a consortium
of 12 major U.S. academic institutions, that has a concentration in public
      transportation operations, policy and management.
