      Green Economy Research Intern
Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER)
      Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness
      Washington, DC Metro
      May – August, 2010

The Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness (CREC) (
www.creconline.org), is the host organization managing the Council for
Community and Economic Research (C2ER) (www.c2er.org), the Labor Market
Information Training Institute (www.lmiontheweb.org), and the Association
of Public Data Users (www.apdu.org). CREC was created in 2000 to provide
research and technical assistance to regions across North America in
improving their economies and creating jobs. C2ER is a membership
organization created in 1961 to promote excellence in community and
economic research – a key element in support the strategies that regions
are developing to promote economic prosperity. C2ER works to improve data
availability, enhance data quality, and foster learning about regional
      economic analytic methods.
CREC and its affiliate members groups (C2ER, LMI Training Institute, and
APDU) accomplish our mission through an array of activities including
professional networking, technical training in community/economic data and
regional economic research methods, advocacy for regional statistics and
economic/workforce development planning programs, applied research in
states and regions, community leadership facilitation, as well as
innovative data or research products/services. Our offices are located
above the Rosslyn Metro Station in Arlington, VA – just across the Potomac
      River from Washington, DC.

      Internship Details
CREC is looking for one or more interns to focus on various projects over
the summer, the most prominent of which is a study of the Green Economy in
one state, an ARRA-funded project encompassing multiple research tasks.
During the internship period, CREC through its C2ER affiliate plans to
survey thousands of employers to quantify the current and future green
employment in the state. This research is central to the project and will
determine many of the recommendations for state policymakers. For this
project, the summer intern(s) will work with C2ER staff to support the
survey by helping to obtain appropriate survey response rate, analyze key
findings, and assist in preparing the study results for public and private
      business leaders.

This project is anticipated to require a significant amount of time, but
the intern(s) will also have an opportunity to work on other projects as
well. Other research areas will include:
      · Working with subject matter experts to redesign an e-learning
training program for staff conducting US Dept. of Labor-sponsored state
      employment projections
      · Investigating the level of state expenditures in economic
      development
      · Organizing and reporting business development assistance
programs sponsored by Federal agencies and the states
      · Conducting community and economic research to support regional
      economic and workforce planning activities
      · Other projects as appropriate
Candidates should be a graduate level student in city and regional
planning, public policy, or a related field. The position will be based
in Arlington, VA. The intern(s) will be expected to have flexible
schedules as there will be points in which it will be necessary for the
team to work based on other time zones. Candidates should be comfortable
with communicating by telephone in a professional environment.

Internship(s) will be paid, full-time temporary positions.

For consideration, submit resume, writing sample (preferably on the topic
of the green economy or related to economic or workforce development
issues), and three references to Ron Kelly (mailto:rkelly@...">
      rkelly@...) by Friday, April 10.
