      Wednesday, March 10th
Personal note: Last night I attended a joint Palo Alto city council/planning commission meeting on updating our housing element largely focused on SB 375 and meeting ABAG's housing requirement.

The hostility toward ABAG and SB 375 was incredible - both are seen as 'threatening' to Palo Alto by the council, planning commission, and the public who addressed them. You'd never know what the purpose of the housing requirement and SB 375 was by listening to the rants against them....e.g. an 'external agency' forcing their will on PA....one council member went so far as to compare ABAG to the High Speed Rail Authority! (PA wrote an amicus brief in support of Menlo Park's, Atherton's, and enviro/transportation groups that sued the HSRA on their programmatic EIR.)

Is SB 375 threatening to cities, or is it necessary to reduce emissions from vehicles?

You be the judge...attend the meeting next Weds afternoon....
