VTA Holds Public Hearing for Environmental Document on Proposed Transit Service Reduction Plan

WHO: Santa Clara County residents and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA).

WHAT: VTA invites all interested persons and agencies to comment on the proposed Draft Initial Study/Negative Declaration under the California Environmental Quality Act.

      WHEN & WHERE: Tuesday, August 18, 2009, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

      Isaac Newton Senter Auditorium,

      County Government Center

70 West Hedding Street, San Jose

This location is served by VTA Bus Lines 61, 62, 66, 181 and

      by VTA Light Rail.

WHY: The elimination of the state transit fund and the continuing decline in sales tax revenue has prompted VTA to propose reducing bus and light rail services. Specifically, an 8 percent cut to bus service and a 6.5 percent reduction in light rail service. The Proposed Negative Declaration is based upon a finding that the project will not have significant impacts on the environment or human
health. The reasons to support such a finding are documented in the Draft Initial Study/Negative Declaration prepared by VTA.

      Initial Study/Negative Declaration

The public information hearing will provide information on the project and comments on the Draft Initial Study/Negative Declaration (IS/EA).

The 20-day public review period for the Draft Initial Study/Negative Declaration begins on August 10, 2009 and ends on August 31, 2009.

Copies of the Initial Study and Proposed Negative Declaration and all documents referenced may be reviewed at local libraries in Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Los Gatos, Milpitas, Morgan Hill, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, and San Jose.

Comments should be provided to the following address no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2009:
