      specializing in urban and regional economics and planning. The firm helps
      local governments, community groups, developers, and non-profit
      organizations understand the economic and development context in which
      they operate in order to take strategic steps towards creating high
      quality places for people to live and work. Strategic Economics is seeking
      a full-time Research Analyst.

      Job Description:

      Strategic Economics is looking for individuals with solid analytical
      skills, background knowledge and interest in regional and local planning
      and economic development, and desire to work with data. Under the
      direction of senior staff, the research analyst will provide support for a
      variety of projects including:

      - Market analysis for real estate and planning projects;
      - Economic and demographic analysis for specific and general plans;
      - A variety of research related to transit-oriented development;
      - Fiscal impact analysis; and
      - Regional economic analysis

      An undergraduate degree in city planning, geography, business, public
      policy, or other related field is required. The applicant must be
      comfortable working with numbers and have a desire to learn more about
      economic analysis. Some experience with GIS is required. The Research
      Analyst plays a key role in finding, analyzing and presenting data from a
      wide variety of sources at one time and so must have excellent
      organizational skills. The applicant will have a combination of several of
      the following:

      - Excellent research and communication skills
      - Attention to detail
      - Ability to work to a deadline
      - Experience with GIS mapping
      - Strong proficiency with Excel
      - Knowledge of one or more of the following: Access, PowerPoint,
      Illustrator, InDesign or GoLive
      - Familiarity with basic statistical analysis and Census data

      In addition to core tasks involving data collection and analysis, the
      individual may also assist with proposals and marketing, organizing
      company databases and some administrative tasks.

      The position also offers an opportunity for growth and career development.
      The ideal candidate would be interested in accepting increasing
      responsibilities as they gain experience in the position. This position
      can offer candidates the experience needed to pursue a career or graduate
      studies in urban planning or a related field.

Under the direction of senior staff, the research analyst will provide support for a variety of projects that might include:

         

        • Market analysis for real estate and planning projects;
        • Economic and demographic analysis for specific and general plans;
        • A variety of research related to transit-oriented development;
        • Fiscal impact analysis; and
        • Employment and industry analysis

         

        An undergraduate degree in city planning, geography, business, public policy, or other related field is required.  The following skills are required:

         

        • Strong quantitative analysis skills, with an interest in urban planning and economic analysis
        • Strong proficiency with Excel, ArcGIS and database management
        • Excellent research and communication skills
        • Excellent organizational skills.

         

        In addition to the above qualifications, the following skills are strongly desired:

        • Attention to detail
        • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time and consistently meet deadlines
        • Desire to learn new analytic methods
        • Experience using Access and SPSS, R, or other statistical software or languages
        • Knowledge of one or more of the following: PowerPoint, Illustrator, or InDesign
        • Familiarity with basic statistical analysis
        • Familiarity with the Census’s American Factfinder Data Portal
        • Familiarity with assessor’s parcel data
        • Familiarity with web mapping technologies

         

        In addition to core tasks involving data collection and analysis, the individual may also assist with proposals and marketing, organizing company databases, graphic design, and some administrative tasks. 

         

        The position also offers an opportunity for growth and career development. The ideal candidate would be interested in accepting increasing responsibilities as they gain experience in the position. This position can offer candidates the experience needed to pursue a career or graduate studies in urban planning or a related field.
