Job Title: Planner or Associate Planner
Description: The Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG) is
the Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Council of Governments for
the Monterey Bay metropolitan area. Our offices are located just minutes
away from the beaches and coastal communities as well as the fertile
Salinas Valley. We are also within an hour to two hour drive from the San
Francisco Bay Area. The region is home to more than 700,000 people and
major tourism-based, agricultural enterprises and universities.
Comprised of Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey counties, AMBAG
undertakes transportation and regional planning activities. To support
these activities, AMBAG is seeking a planner at either the entry-level or
associate level. The position will be filled at a level consistent with
AMBAG staffing needs and the suitability of the candidate. All aplicants
must fill out an application form available at the AMBAG website (
http://www.ambag.org/employment/index.htm). Salary information is also
available on the job flyer available at the website.
If the candidate pool allows, eligible candidates will be placed on a
eligibility list for an additional Planner position to open later in 2009.
Entry level staff members will be expected to participate in the full
range of AMBAG projects, following supervisory instructions to complete
tasks in a timely manner. Associate staff members are expected to be
journey-level with demonstrated ability to follow supervisory direction in
executing projects, anticipating needs and coordinating with other staff
as needed to complete projects in a timely manner.
AMBAG is engaged in a very broad based range of projects, in which the
candidate will be considered to participate in. Projects may include
activities such as a regional visioning effort; greenhouse gas emission
reduction strategies; alternative mode planning for agricultural workers
and commuters; goods movement planning; Census activities, demographics,
land use and market analysis; and airport-land use planning. Since most
AMBAG activities are grant funded there are many opportunities to apply
for grants to broaden the professional scope of the selected candidate.
