      CAMPAIGN DIRECTOR
      Full-time position

      Greenbelt Alliance, the San Francisco Bay Area?s advocate for open spaces
      and vibrant places, seeks an experienced candidate for the position of
      Campaign Director based in San Francisco.

      Position Summary
      The Campaign Director will manage Greenbelt Alliance?s innovative and
      effective Field Program. Specifically, this position will manage four
      field offices, four full time staff and, as needed, project-specific
      staff.

      Through our Field Program ? with offices in Santa Rosa, San Rafael, Walnut
      Creek, and San Jose ? Greenbelt Alliance provides leadership in land use
      advocacy throughout the Bay Area. The Campaign Director works with field
      staff to develop and implement campaigns to protect open space and create
      vibrant places throughout the Bay Area.

      Some examples of current and recent campaigns include:

      Reuse of the Concord Naval Weapons Station - Ensure a high level of
      permanently protected open space on the vast majority of the site, and
      significant smart growth development around the North Concord BART station
      with a high level of affordable homes.
      SMART Commuter Train in Sonoma and Marin Counties ? Ensure passage of
      sales tax measure to fund a new commuter rail to connect Sonoma and Marin
      Counties. Ensure that planning processes around the new stations promote
      walkable communities that promote use of the train, reduce car use, and
      provide a mix of uses for residents of surrounding communities without
      promoting sprawl.
      San Jose General Plan Update ? Work in the City of San Jose to develop a
      model General Plan that promotes smart, healthy and climate friendly
      development by increasing housing and job options near transit and
      increasing transportation options throughout the city.
      Opposing Incorporation of San Martin (Santa Clara County) ? Help preserve
      and protect the Bay Area?s important agricultural resources by opposing
      the creation of a new city encompassing all of the land between Morgan
      Hill and Gilroy along the 101 corridor.

      The ideal candidate will have proven experience in grassroots organizing,
      political strategy, staff management, and an interest in policies that
      promote smart growth and open space protection. The Campaign Director
      reports to the Director of Programs.

      Key Responsibilities:

      Program Development: The Campaign Director shapes the Greenbelt Alliance
      Field Program to ensure permanent protection of open space resources,
      creation of affordable, infill housing opportunities and enhancement of
      the region?s quality of life. The Campaign Director oversees ? and
      engages in ? targeted advocacy efforts to pass land use polices in cities
      and counties, defeat irresponsible sprawl development proposals and
      promote smart growth, infill development.

      Staff Management: The Campaign Director commits significant time to each
      member of the field staff. Through systematic communications, monthly
      meetings, site visits, and regular evaluations, the Campaign Director
      develops the skills and ensures the effectiveness of the field staff. The
      Campaign Director is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and training
      field staff.

      Regional Advocacy: The Campaign Director plays a leadership role in
      regional campaigns to make the Bay Area a better place to live, as
      necessary. The Campaign Director also actively works to build other
      coalitions with a broad range of constituencies.

      Organizational Coordination: The Campaign Director is part of the
      organizational leadership team and works closely with other senior staff
      in the program department (Policy, Communications, and Field) to support
      campaigns and Greenbelt Alliance priorities. For example, the Campaign
      Director will work with the Policy Directors on a research agenda and with
      the Communications Director to generate media coverage of field campaigns.
      The Campaign Director will also coordinate with the Development Director
      and Executive Director as necessary.

      Qualifications:

      The ideal Campaign Director candidate will be a proven and effective
      advocate with a bachelor?s degree plus five years experience ? or relevant
      master?s plus three years experience ? in the following:

      Staff management
      Political strategy development
      Campaign planning including
      Grassroots field campaign management
      Ballot measure campaigns
      Building coalitions among diverse stakeholder groups
      Public speaking before citizen organizations and elected bodies
      Interacting with the media and serving as a spokesperson
      Writing persuasively on tight deadlines
      Advocacy on land use and community development issues
      Car and flexible schedule also required.

      Most importantly, the Campaign Director will be committed to promoting
      vibrant places and protecting the Bay Area?s greenbelt for this and future
      generations.

      Salary and Benefits

      Salary depends on experience. Medical and dental insurance provided as
      well as short-term disability, flexible spending, and 403(b) accounts.
