HOUSING DEVELOPMENT INTERN (City of Oakland)

The Housing and Community Development Division of the Community and
Economic Development Agency (CEDA) currently has an opening for a paid
position as a Housing Intern. These internships provide a valuable
opportunity to gain practical experience in affordable housing with one of
the most active public agencies in the Bay Area.

Intern assignments include project feasibility analysis, review of loan
applications, preparation of reports and resolutions for the City Council,
administration and development of housing programs, preparation of legal
documents relating to land disposition and project financing, contract
administration, development of housing programs, and research and report
writing on housing-related issues. Other tasks include development and
maintenance of databases and preparation of informational materials on
housing programs and market conditions. In the past, many interns have
been able to use their work with CEDA as the basis for their thesis or
professional report to complete a master's degree in planning or other
      fields.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate, through a combination of work
and educational experience, a familiarity with housing policy and finance,
the development process, and governmental housing programs. Strong
written and verbal communications skills are essential. Proficiency with
Microsoft Word and Excel is highly desirable.

Rate of pay: $17.00 to $20.00 per hour, depending upon experience. (We
regret that this position does not offer fringe benefits.)

Internships are limited duration appointments; interns may not work more
than 1000 hours in any single fiscal year or calendar year.

Interns are expected to work at least 15-20 hours/week, but may work up to
      40 hours/week if they desire.

To apply, send a cover letter and resume describing your background and
      qualifications to:

      Diana Downton, Housing Development Coordinator
      Community and Economic Development Agency
      250 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Suite 5313
      Oakland, CA 94612

Applications will be accepted until April 20th, 2009.

The City of Oakland is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
