      GUIDELINES for a
MAINTENANCE TRUST FEASIBILITY STUDY IN THE CITY OF OAKLAND

The Maintenance Trust Exploratory Committee working under the lead
organization Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation (FOPR) is looking for
an intern to do research to lay the foundation for an eventual proposal to
establish a Maintenance Trust in the City of Oakland. This trust would
work in collaboration with the City to preserve and enhance conditions of
park grounds and facilities in one or more Oakland parks.

The intern(s) will produce an in-depth study of existing trusts or
conservancies, locally and nation-wide, that are focused on improving
conditions in city parks on the maintenance side. Research should include
the following information for each case:
      a. History of organization
      b. Structure of partnership with city; roles and responsibilities of
      each partner.
      c. Monetary support and fund-raising activities
      d. Public/volunteer direct involvement
      e. Achievements since inception
      2. Research should include text that answers the above questions,
photos that can be used in a power-point presentation which illustrate the
work of the program, and data to show the accomplishments of each example.

      3. The Deliverable would include a written report on the top five
most comparable organizations. The list would be pared down from
preliminary research. It should include an assessment of which groups you
felt were most successful and why, which models you believe could work
best in Oakland, and which areas you felt would need to be altered or
could be made better to fit into an Oakland environment and why.

      Skills Required

      1. Strong communication and verbal skills.
      2. Writing skills and knowledge of Word processing applications.
      3. Understanding of basic budgets and finance.
      4. Analytical skills
      5. Familiarity with governmental and labor policies and regulations.

      To Apply:

Please submit a resume along with a cover letter on why you feel you would
like to work on this project and what you could offer that would be
beneficial to our study. Applications should be submitted by March 9th
and can be mailed to the Attn: of Kathryn Raymond, Friends of Oakland
Parks and Recreation, PO Box 13267, Oakland, CA 94661. They can also be
sent via fax to 510-465-1852 or email to oaklandparks@.... For
