Internship - San Francisco (?) - California Housing Partnership Corporation - Housing Preservation Outreach Project Manager
- The California Housing Partnership Corporation (CHPC) is a statewide
nonprofit housing policy and financial consulting organization whose
mission is to assist nonprofit and government agencies to create, preserve
and manage affordable housing for low income households. CHPC has provided
financial consulting services, technical assistance and training to more
than 5,000 professionals and 200 nonprofit and local government housing
CHPC is seeking a graduate student in planning, public policy, public
administration, or law to serve as Housing Preservation Outreach Project
Manager during the summer of 2009 to further our mission of preserving
California's supply of affordable homes for lower income households. The
goal is to identify potential at-risk properties, to understand the
factors influencing the decisions of the owners of the properties, and
where possible to persuade the owners to preserve the affordability or
sell to a non-profit preservation purchaser. The focus will be on
preserving Section 8 subsidized housing in the Los Angeles and San
Francisco Metropolitan Areas.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
? Become knowledgeable about affordable housing preservation issues
and policies in California and nationally.
? Working under the supervision of CHPC staff, contact owners and
managers of federally subsidized apartments to determine their intentions
and interest in disposing of the property.
? Assist senior CHPC staff in making decisions based on this
? Create a comprehensive training manual that outlines the
California Housing Partnership Corporation's Housing Preservation Outreach
? Write a case study on a property whose affordability was
? Assist in analysis of Federal and/or State housing policy.
? Be part of a team of experienced, committed professionals working
to create and preserve affordable homes for lower income Californians.
Excellent writing and research skills; demonstrated interest and
commitment to affordable housing and community development; interest in
real estate finance; graduate degree candidate in Public Policy, Planning
or related field or comparable work experience; experience with Microsoft
Office and database programs (Filemaker Pro preferred). Confident and calm
telephone presence essential.
