      Oakland Rising is a new formation of Oakland-based social justice
      organizations that have a long-term, shared vision for building
      progressive power in Oakland. We are committed to building a powerful
      forward-thinking electorate rooted in low-income and communities of color,
      exercising and expanding our political influence to advance a set of
      progressive values and policies, aligning our organizations and
      coordinating with other progressive forces to realize and sustain a
      progressive vision for Oakland. Oakland Rising consists of: the Asian
      Pacific Environmental Network, the East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable
      Economy, the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Just Cause Oakland,
      Oakland ACORN and Urban Habitat.

      Position Summary:

      Oakland Rising (OR) seeks an enthusiastic, hard-working Field Director to
      direct our collective civic participation activities in 2009 and 2010. The
      ideal candidate will have working knowledge and experience with direct
      organizing and a commitment to social justice and equity for low-income
      communities of color. This position will be housed at the Asian Pacific
      Environmental Network, work closely with all the member organizations, and
      will report directly to Oakland Rising?s Executive Director.

      Primary Roles & Responsibilities:

      1. Direct Field Operations, including:

      ? Developing long / short term electoral field goals, strategy, plan and
      trainings on the how to?s and why?s of electoral organizing with active
      support and input from member organizations
      ? Coordinating & tracking field operations to meet agreed upon goals;
      including setting up and running phone banks, canvasses, and
      mobilizations.
      ? Drive & track volunteer recruitment, training, supervision to ensure
      meeting overall goals
      ? Work with consultants to develop and maintain ongoing growing voter
      database

      2. Overall Project Coordination, Management, Administration
      ? Overseeing, coordinating and driving the implementation of OR?s workplan
      ? Developing agendas, materials and briefs for meetings
      ? Scheduling, facilitating and sending following-up emails from meetings
      ? Convening working groups

      3. Communications Coordination and Management
      ? Developing and managing regular content changes to the website
      ? Creating relevant hard-hitting pod-casts, vod-casts and blog posts
      ? Promotion of website, blog and advocacy tools
      ? Grass-roots internet fundraising.

      4. Organizational Leadership
      ? Participates on leadership team to coordinate organization wide work,
      monitor overall health and functioning of the organization, facilitate
      effective organizational responses to opportunities and challenges
      ? Assists in drafting foundation proposals relevant to program work;
      ? Participates in development and monitoring of annual budgets for
      program-based work.
      ? Supports the Executive Director to meet the goals and objectives of the
      organization.

      Required Qualifications:

      ? Strong work ethic and personal commitment to excellence
      ? Willingness to learn, be flexible and ability to work well with others
      ? One year previous campaign, union or community organizing experience
      ? Multitasking and attention to details while managing and meeting
      timelines
      ? Commitment to social, racial, economic, environmental, and gender
      justice
      ? Valid drivers license and reliable vehicle

      Skills:

      ? Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well under pressure
      ? Respect for people from all walks of life
      ? Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Internet, Outlook email, Excel, Access
      and HTML. Not afraid of math.
      ? Bilingual Spanish and/or Cantonese major plus
