      Bike to Work Day Internship

      The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) is a educational and
      advocacy nonprofit organization operating primarily in San Mateo and
      Santa Clara Counties, with the mission to promote bicycling as a mode
      of transportation and for recreation.
      This dynamic working environment will provide very fulfilling work for
      the appropriate candidate. The intern will have the opportunity to
      work with and learn from each of the four other staff directly, as we
      are a small and dedicated team. SVBC staff are committed to mentoring
      and training candidates to create a positive learning experience.

      Interns will meet with staff committees on a weekly basis. The
      internship focus area will differ depending on the candidate�s course
      of study, but will revolve around one of the following themes:
      0.Event Promotion (including logistics, coordination,
      management, business outreach)

      0.Media outreach (including organizing press events,
      press releases, etc.)

      0.Community outreach (managing volunteers, membership
      development, community-based promotional activity)

      Time commitment:
      0. Duration through May (exact ending date flexible)

      0. Ten to Twenty hours per week

      Specific tasks may include:
      0. Oversee the distribution of Bike to Work Day
      promotional materials

      0. Create content for print and online publications

      0. Contact press, setup interviews and send out press
      releases

      Assist with managing special campaigns that are part of the Bike to
      Work implementation process

      0. Solicit donations for give-aways, cash
      sponsorships and prizes

      Assist with other tasks related to the event management including
      phone calls, data entry, mailings, running errands throughout the Bay
      Area, etc.

      Helpful experience, knowledge and skills:
      A team player who is willing to learn and contribute to this very
      exciting event

      0. Strong interpersonal skills

      0. Knack for detail, organization, and follow-through

      0. Experience in organizing and coordinating events

      0. Ability to coordinate complex logistical tasks

      0. Good written and verbal communication skills

      0. Enthusiasm about bicycling

      Experience using Mac OS X and Windows, office applications, using
      databases; experience with graphic and illustration applications are a
      plus
