APA Housing and Community Development Divison Scholarship Announcement
- Are you a full-time undergraduate or graduate urban planning student? Are
you working on a creative research project? Would you be interested in
receiving a $1,000 research grant? Do you know other urban planning
students that would also be interested? If your answers are YES, YES, YES,
then we invite you to apply for one of our prestigious scholarships.
The American Planning Association Housing and Community Development
Division awards an annual scholarship to support academic research and
creative projects on contemporary issues in urban planning and design.
What is the HCD Research Grant?
The HCD Research Grant is seeking meritorious students to submit a
two-page proposal that focuses on an interdisciplinary study of
architecture, ?smart growth? community planning, promoting feasible
economic and social strategies, and encouraging environmental design that
provides a vision to benefit our programs.
This is your opportunity to network among professional urban planners and
become recognized of your achievements. All Recipients will have the
opportunity to present their findings at either, the Annual APA Conference
or APA-sponsored conference in their region by the HCD Division Executive
In addition to the required proposal, students must submit a joint Faculty
Sponsor letter of support; a student resume, including professional
employment, volunteer services, and awards and honors; and a statement
letter of interest in the HCD Division.

The Divisions Council has asked the Grants/Awards Committee to provide a
scholarship program with the intent of promoting an appreciation in the
urban planning and design field. Please complete the following information
to be considered for the scholarship program. Late proposals will not be
accepted. Grant funds will be available for use till December 31, 2009.
Proposals will be reviewed based on: merit, feasibility and organization
of applicant's dedication and aptitude of proposed activity. Thank you.

HCD Research Grant
Description (3-4 sentences)
The leadership of the APA Housing & Community Development Division is
seeking to provide a research grant to an undergraduate or graduate
student in the amount of $1,000 for materials and/or activities directly
related to a student's research. The purpose of the grant program is to
inform our members of new or innovative housing and/ or community
development methods, practices, or programs. Recipients will be asked to
present their work at the either an Annual APA Conference or APA-sponsored
conference in their region. Housing & Community Development Division
members will be given special preference for funding.

The applicant must be an undergraduate or graduate student
The research must be conducted in connection with a Masters Thesis or
other student project
The research advocates new or innovative housing and/ or community
development methods, practices, or programs
Recipients must present their work at either the Annual APA Conference or
APA-sponsored conference in their region

Two page (max.) proposal:
Goals and Objectives ? What are your research goals and objectives?
Project Significance - How will this project contribute to the housing and
community development field?
Methodology - How will you accomplish your goals stated above?
Budget - What is your proposed budget? (Please submit an itemized budget
on a separate page). Provide any other funding sources if applicable
Future Plans ? Will the results of the proposed research be published?
Will you continue research in this area?
