      About the Stewardship Program
The Stewardship Program is Acterras oldest and largest program in terms of annual
budget, number of paid staff (eight) and number of people involved (last year, over
1,300 volunteers engaged in habitat restoration projects and 550 students were served
by our Young Earth Stewards project). It is the primary portal through which many
people on the San Francisco peninsula first encounter Acterra and become involved
      with our organization.
The Stewardship Program has four components:
      1) Arastradero Preserve Stewardship Project Involves hundreds of individual
volunteers and members of groups each year to restore damaged habitat on this 622
acre nature preserve owned by the City of Palo Alto.
      2) San Francisquito Watershed Project Engages hundreds of volunteers each year in
restoring damaged riparian areas in the creek and its tributaries in the 44 square
mile watershed extending from Skyline Boulevard to the San Francisco Bay
      3) Young Earth Stewards Uses habitat restoration as the vehicle for educating youth
from underserved communities about our local ecosystem and inspires them to
develop a lifelong appreciation of and love for the natural world.
      4) Native Plant Nursery Propagates over 20,000 native plants each year for use in the
above-mentioned projects, other restoration projects on public lands, and in
educating the public about the important role of native plants in a healthy
      ecosystem.
