      City of San Ramon Greenhouse Gas Emissions Analysis

      The City of San Ramon seeks a graduate or exceptional undergraduate
      student intern for fall semester. The intern will help the city begin
      the process of tackling global warming emissions.
      San Ramon has committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by joining
      the Cities for Climate Protection Campaign (CCP), a program of the
      International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). The
      intern wit I work in City's Public Services Department to begin the CCP
      process of developing a strategic local plan to reduce emissions.
      To help San Ramon develop a local climate protection plan, the intern
      will:

      * Assist San Ramon in completing an inventory of green house gas (GHG)
      emissions generated by City facilities, vehicles, and operations. The
      intern will work with multiple City departments to collect information
      and use GHG software to compile the emissions data and to forecast
      future emissions.
      * Help the City to begin designing its Local Action Plan to reduce GHG
      emissions. This will involve aspects of energy efficiency, water
      conservation, solid waste management, land use planning, and
      transportation. It will include evaluation of current recycling program
      for City facilities.
      The City of San Ramon seeks students with:
      * Prior experience working for and knowledge of government, particularly

      local/city government;
      * Experience with issues surrounding energy use, transportation,
      utilities, and/or solid waste;
      * Assertive personality, persistence, and strong people skills critical
      for working with a variety of city
      departments and personalities;
      * Basic computer and data manipulation skills.
      * General understanding of the causes, science, and impacts of global
      warming/climate change;

      Deadline: This position is open until filled.
      Compensation: Based upon experience/qualifications.
      Hours: Flexible part-time hours. Approximately 20 hours per week for
      three months.
