Student Intern Position Available Now
This student intern position in the Service & Operations Planning
Department of VTA?s Operations Division offers the opportunity to gain
transit planning and operations experience. The position offers a student
the opportunity to improve not only analytical and technical abilities,
but also verbal and written communication skills.
The main focus of the position is to support the development of VTA?s
Annual Transit Service Plan and quarterly bus and rail service changes by
compiling and maintaining ridership statistics; developing maps, charts
and graphics; and conducting passenger surveys and tabulating results.
Also assist with other Service & Operations Planning duties including
field reviews of service and bus stops; special event planning; ambassador
assignments; preparing and proofreading notices, signs and other public
information; bus stop inventory maintenance and other related duties. The
student intern may be called upon to assist in data collection, report
reviews or other investigations for other work groups within the
The ideal candidate would have an interest in a career in transit,
transportation or planning and is enrolled in a related undergraduate or
graduate degree program, such as transportation, planning or geography.
Ability to analyze data, develop written reports and create supporting
maps, graphics and charts. Experience with GIS systems, Excel, Word and
PowerPoint. Desire and ability to perform related field work ? riding
transit to collect data, reviewing bus stops and similar tasks.
The intern candidate should possess effective oral and written
communication skills, good computer skills, ability to reason logically,
sound problem-solving techniques, and ability to establish and maintain
cooperative working relationships with others.
This is a paid internship at $15 per hour but does not include any other
benefits. Work hours are flexible around school schedule. This position is
available on an ongoing basis. The successful applicant must have a valid
California driver?s license.
