      They are looking for people to do on-site cataloguing of historical buildings and landscapes.  It's a summer job, and seems like a gem of an opportunity for the right student.

      Here's part of their job description:
      The Historic American Buildings
      Survey/Historic American Engineering Record/Historic American Landscapes
      Survey (HABS/HAER/HALS), a division of the National Park Service, seeks
      applications from qualified individuals for summer employment documenting historic sites and structures of architectural, landscape and technological significance.  Duties involve on-site field work and preparation of historical reports, and measured and interpretive drawings for the HABS/HAER/HALS Collection at the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. Projects normally last for twelve weeks, beginning in May/June but do not exceed September 30th.  Salaries range from entry level positions at $5,400 to more senior positions at approximately $9,200 for the summer, depending on job responsibility, locality of the project, and level of experience."


      Responsibilities.  Development of geographic information systems and documents for municipal, environmental resource and project planning applications.  ESRI/Autodesk software.  Source data research, digital compilation, map/document design, client liaison, production, quality control.  Presentation of deliverables, end-user training, product support, project management.  Close collaboration with other staff.

      Attributes.  Must have a four-year degree in geography, environmental studies or a related field with emphasis in GIS applications. Professional experience in GIS development very desirable.  Working knowledge of GPS technology/data collection.  Good graphic composition and writing skills.  Enthusiastic and motivated. Non-smoker and drug free.

      Compensation/Hours.  Pay dependent on capabilities.  Hours and schedule somewhat flexible.  Forty hours per week, generally within 8 am to 5 pm time frame.  Eligible for holiday, vacation and sick leave benefits after six months.
