The City is seeking a Transit Planner to provide a variety of professional
work for the City?s public transit and paratransit programs. Employees
within this class are distinguished by the performance of the full range
of duties as assigned including independent analysis and development of
transportation programs and services. Duties include but are not limited
? Participate in the planning, operations and activities of the City?s
public transportation programs.
? Preparation of operating and capital grant applications and monitor
? Participate in the development of the public transit program budget.
? Development of the Short Range Transit Plan and other studies.
? Work with other City Departments and transit agencies to provide
adequate transit service.
? Meet with contractor(s) to identify and resolve operating issues.
? Prepare scopes of work for contracts, professional services, etc.
? Act as liaison to other public agencies and the public.
? Related duties and responsibilities as needed.
The Transit Planner receives general direction from the City?s Transit
Education and Experience: Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or
university with major course work in transportation planning, public
administration or a related field. Three years of public administration
experience in the field of public transit systems.
Knowledge of: Methods of conducting research; preparing reports and
contracts; conducts statistical analysis and reporting procedures. Have
knowledge of pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and
Ability to: Exercise responsibility to work with limited direction. Assist
in administering contractual agreements related to public transit systems.
Analyze and develop comprehensive transit programs; gather, organize, and
analyze statistical data. Analyze problems, identify alternative
solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement
recommendations in support of goals. Interpret and explain public transit
policies and procedures. Make independent decisions in the absence of the
City?s Transit Manager.
License: Must possess a valid Class ?C? California Driver?s License and
have a satisfactory driving record.
Retirement: The City pays 4.5% of the employee?s 8% contributions towards
CalPERS, 2.5% @ 55 retirement plan. There are no Social Security
deductions (except 1.45% Medicare).
Life Insurance: The premium for life insurance and AD&D is paid by the
City ($25,000 each). Additional voluntary supplemental life insurance is
available. Short-term and long-germ disability premium shared by the City
and the employee.
Medical/Dental: The city provides $1,148/month to purchase medical, dental
and vision benefits.
Leaves: 10 days of vacation per year for the first three years, increasing
to 25 days after 16 years of service; 11 paid holidays a year (including 2
floating holidays); 8 hours of sick leave per month with no limit on

schedule, with alternate Fridays off. Deferred compensation available on a

Salary: $6,269.00 - $7,617.00 Monthly
