      POSITION SUMMARY: Chinatown CDC (www.chinatowncdc.org) is rebuilding its
      Planning Team to refocus on community and land use needs in the
      neighborhood. The Senior Planner focuses on issues of Economic Development
      and Transportation primarily in the San Francisco Chinatown neighborhood.
      Responsibilities include developing, coordinating and overseeing the
      Chinatown CDC?s overall economic development program including Central
      Subway, alleyways programming, merchant outreach, Park and Ride and other
      community planning work as needed. The position prefers someone who is
      bilingual in English and Cantonese.

      Status: Full-time, Exempt
      Salary: DOE with excellent benefits
      Hours: General office hours, plus some nights and weekends

      The Chinatown Community Development Center, a community-based, non-profit
      organization founded in 1977, is dedicated to improving San Francisco?s
      Chinatown by addressing issues such as tenant rights, affordable housing,
      neighborhood, land use and transportation planning, open space, seismic
      safety, and lead hazard reduction/education.

      PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

      ? Identify and assess community priorities within San Francisco Chinatown,
      with particular focus on transportation and economic development
      ? Coordinate and organize community input and support for various
      programs, particularly from the Chinatown merchant community
      ? Manage the outreach and marketing component of the Chinatown Park and
      Ride program
      ? Develop economic development programming to enhance the Chinatown
      Alleyway Improvement Program
      ? Monitor business vacancies in Chinatown on a quarterly basis
      ? Analyze and draft responses to plans, proposals, or recommendations from
      the City Planning Department and other city or state agencies
      ? Conduct meetings/workshops and provide community education/outreach
      material to community members and city agencies
      ? Assist in advocacy efforts on issues significantly affecting the
      Chinatown community, particularly the Central Subway
      ? Assess impact of proposed citywide projects, specifically on
      transportation issues, on neighborhood residents and physical environment
      ? Liaise with the Mayor?s Office of Economic and Workforce Development,
      Office of Small Business and LISC
      ? Collaborate with Program staff and the Program Committee in defining the
      organization?s position on planning-related issues and in strategizing
      plan of action
      ? Gather, analyze and provide information/statistics on Chinatown
      neighborhood, such as demographics and trends
      ? Assist in writing grant proposals and grant reports to program funders
      as needed
      Other:
      ? Represent organization with community residents, governmental agencies
      and committees, neighborhood groups, and city-wide organizations
      ? Other duties as assigned

      Required Skills:
      ? Excellent public speaking skills and ability to facilitate meetings
      ? Familiarity with issues relevant to community development, economic
      development and transportation
      ? Familiarity with planning concepts
      ? Ability to work independently as well as in a team structure
      ? Ability to be flexible and perform a variety of work activities
      ? Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
      ? Strong analytical and organizational skills
      ? Effective negotiation and mediation skills
      ? Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, database, and desktop
      publishing software

      ? Capacity to attend meetings in the evenings and weekends

      Minimum Qualifications:
      ? 1 year experience in community planning
      ? 1 year experience in neighborhood planning issues in general, including
      areas of economic development and transportation
      ? Proficiency with PC computer systems, including Word, Excel, Outlook,
      and the internet
      ? Education:
      - Bachelor?s Degree in urban planning, urban studies, geography, city
      planning, economics, or related fields, with three (3) years experience in
      neighborhood planning/organizing, transportation issues, economic
      development, advocacy/community work, city planning or related field
      OR
      - Master?s Degree in urban planning, urban studies, geography, city
      planning, economics, or related fields, with one (1) year experience in
      neighborhood planning/organizing, transportation issues, economic
      development, advocacy/community work, city planning or related field

      Preferred Qualifications:

        Senior Planner is part of the Community Planning Team, a team
