Building a New Food System: Policy and Planning

Who?s in control, how does urban planning impact food systems, and can
city and regional governments impact food systems through thoughtful
planning? Planning is key to designing future food systems that
accommodate the needs of all people and the environment. This panel will
explore best practices and current challenges to urban and rural planning
for a more sustainable food system. Speakers include San Francisco Mayor
Gavin Newsom (invited); Marion Nestle, Paulette Goddard Professor,
Department of Nutrition, Food Studies and Public Health, NYU; and AG
Kawamura, Secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
