Please review and distribute this announcement for year-long paid Housing and Community Development internships in the following areas: Redwood City, Santa Cruz, Gilroy, Davis, West Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto, Fresno/Visalia, San Diego/Escondido and Coachella Valley.

CCRH is proud to announce that we are now recruiting university students for it’s 6th Annual Internship Program for Diversity in Nonprofit Housing and Community Development. Please help get the word out about the program and pass this along to your college student networks or peer contacts within the universities who have access to students. We have nonprofit hosts in the program located in various parts of the state of California that we are currently recruiting interns for. Thanks to many of you who actively announce the program to your student networks, we have graduated nearly 40 university students with over ½ remaining in the Community Development field and holding very responsible positions. This is an excellent and rare year-long paid intern program for students who want to learn HANDS-ON what it takes to be develop safe healthy living communities for low-income people from both the technical and qualitative perspective. This is a perfect program for students who represent California’s rich population diversity and who want to use their skills, commitment and initiative towards a career that has a direct socio-economic and social justice impact . Deadline to apply is 3/3/03 or until all positions filled.

YEAR-LONG PAID INTERNSHIPS POSITIONS AVAILABLE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
REDWOOD CITY, SANTA CRUZ, GILROY, DAVIS, WEST SACRAMENTO, STOCKTON, MODESTO, FRESNO/VISALIA, SAN DIEGO/ESCONDIDO, AND COACHELLA VALLEY

CCRH is proud to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2003-2004 Program year. The Internship Program offers a COMPREHENSIVE INTERNSHIP AND TRAINING PROGRAM to students interested in a career in Affordable Housing and Community Development . The program’s mission is to diversify the staff of non-profit community development organizations and to impact the overall quality of life and health of rural and emerging urban communities across the state.
Selected Interns commit a year (June 2003 – May 2004) to work full-time during the summer (40 hours per week), and part-time during the academic year (approx. 20 hours per week) at nonprofit host organization’s undertaking Project Development work and learning first hand about:
>Affordable Housing Development: what it takes to develop affordable housing from start to finish - from the first idea of developing affordable housing to financing the project and to construction completion
>Impacting Social Change: community development strategies for developing affordable housing within ethnically diverse low-income, rural and emerging urban communities
>Finance: financial proforma development, feasibility analysis of affordable housing developments, and securing predevelopment, construction, and permanent financing (working directly with financial lenders and investors)
>Construction Design and Planning: building for low-income people without compromising the quality of construction – design, construction, and the use of outdoor and indoor space.
>Political/Community Processes: city and community approval strategies for getting developments approved
>Leadership: community development leadership skill building and mentorship for impacting social change at the state, county and local level
Interns also engage in supplemental trainings, such as participating in a week-long Summer Training Institute for all intern participants, attending a nonprofit housing finance training, attending the CCRH Rural Housing Summit, attending a mid-winter training/retreat and other activities. Selected interns are exposed to top leaders and professionals in the field during the trainings and activities.
