      Full time (Open until filled)

      The Leadership Institute is a year-round training academy that
      provides strategic and comprehensive trainings to a broad range of
      partners, including community organizations, elected officials, labor,
      faith-based organizations, and youth. Our trainings identify both the
      policies that create problems and strategies that address them. To
      date, over 400 participants throughout the Bay Area have participated
      in the Leadership Institute.Position

      Description
      Urban Habitat is seeking a high-energy individual with strong
      research, facilitation, training, and curriculum development skills to
      coordinate all aspects of the Leadership Institute. Candidate must be
      able to work with a diverse group of organizations (community groups,
      intermediaries, policy groups, government, labor, youth groups, etc)
      to create and implement customized curricula and leadership trainings.
      Candidate will interface with a variety of audiences that Urban
      Habitat trains, including elected officials and city staff as well as
      community groups and neighborhood leaders and, as such, should have a
      good understanding of how these groups think and operate. An
      understanding of a variety of environmental and social justice issues
      including workforce development, housing, transportation, equity, and
      land use, and their impacts on historically disenfranchised
      communities, is helpful. Candidate must be able to work
      collaboratively with UH staff in a team environment to ensure that the
      Leadership Institute supports UH's programs and priority campaigns.
      Furthermore, candidate must be able to work closely with external
      partners to strengthen coalitions and move identified campaigns
      involving multiple and diverse stakeholders.
      ESSENTIAL DUTIES

      * Program Support: Work with UH staff and play a lead role in
      researching, identifying, and implementing leadership-development and
      capacity-building strategies to support UH's priority programs and
      campaigns, including our Transportation Program, Social Equity Caucus,
      and Richmond Equitable Development Initiative (REDI). Participate in
      annual program planning to achieve organization's long-range strategic
      goals.
      * Curriculum Design: Play a lead role in the design of curricula
      and other popular education materials on a wide range of topics
      related to regionalism, environmental justice, equitable development,
      green economic development, community engagement strategies, and
      policy and decision-making processes.

      * Facilitation and Coordination of Leadership Institutes:
      Coordinate and implement all stages of Leadership Institute trainings
      including contracts with partner organizations, recruitment of
      participants, selection and management of external advisors and
      trainers, and implementation of the trainings.
      * Documentation and Evaluation: Play a lead role in the
      documentation and evaluation of curricula, trainings, and methodology.
      Disseminate best practices and methodology to key allies throughout
      the country, as needed.
      * Alumni Network: Create and sustain a network of Leadership
      Institute alumni to ensure that they remain engaged in UH's ongoing
      programs and campaigns. This includes developing an alumni newsletter
      and hosting an annual reception for graduate.
      * Development and Communications: Provide regular updates and
      other written materials to the Director of Development and Planning,
      Board of Directors, and Media and Communications Associate in order to
      support UH's fundraising efforts, media strategy, and web-site
      outreach. Participate in fundraising cultivation meetings and/or
      provide talking points on Leadership Institute program for development
      purposes.

      Qualifications:

      * Master's or bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Education,
      Community Development, or related field.
      * At least three (3) years of facilitation and training experience
      required (preferably to an array of audiences).
      * Curriculum development experience required (preferably in
      popular education).
      * Strong research and organizational skills.
      * Excellent written and public speaking skills.
      * Event planning experience a plus
      * Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with grassroots and
      base-building organizations, elected officials, and decision-makers as
      well as an ability to build partnerships and relationships with key
      campaign players.
      * Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of issues facing
      low-income communities of color.
      * Capacity to establish goals and priorities along with the
      ability to manage multiple projects to achieve deadlines.
      * A team player who works well with others as well as independently.
      * Proficient in Microsoft Office with some graphics applications.

      Salary: $45,000 - $65,000
      Status: Full-time position with full benefits. Position reports
      directly to the Associate Director.
