      Senior Planner (Transportation)

      Job Summary

      The Senior Planner (Transportation) will develop, coordinate and oversee
      the Chinatown CDC’s overall transportation work program including Central
      Subway planning, Chinatown Park and Ride, the Broadway Streetscape
      Improvement Project, pedestrian safety programs, and other community
      planning work as needed. Provide ongoing Technical Assistance to the
      Chinatown Transportation Research and Improvement Project (Chinatown
      TRIP).



      Primary Responsibilities

      *Develop, coordinate and oversee Chinatown CDC’s overall transportation
      work program
      *Provide ongoing technical assistance to the Chinatown Transportation
      *Research and Improvement Project (Chinatown TRIP)
      *Manage the outreach and marketing component of the Chinatown Park and
      Ride program
      *Work with program staff to coordinate the Broadway Streetscape
      Improvement Project, and other community planning work as needed
      *Identify and assess community needs within Chinatown, with particular
      focus on transportation and planning issues (including economic
      development, neighborhood improvement, etc.)
      *Develop and strategize on planning efforts with input from the Chinatown
      community
      *Help coordinate and organize community input and support
      *Define and oversee work by interns/volunteers/consultants on planning
      related activities
      *Give public testimony to City agencies, civic committees, and
      neighborhood groups as needed
      *Analyze and draft responses to plans, proposals, or recommendations from
      Department of City Planning and other city or state agencies
      *Conduct meetings/workshops and provide community education/outreach
      material to community members and city agencies
      *Assist in advocacy efforts on issues significantly affecting Chinatown
      community
      *Assess impact of proposed citywide projects, specifically on
      transportation issues, on neighborhood residents and physical environment
      *Collaborate with Program staff and program committee in defining
      organization’s position on planning-related issues and in strategizing
      plan of action, particularly in the area of transportation
      *Gather, analyze and provide information/statistics on Chinatown
      neighborhood, such as demographics and trends
      *Assist in writing grant proposals and grant reports to program funders as
      needed

      Other:
      Represent organization with community residents, governmental agencies and
      committees, neighborhood groups, and city-wide organizations
      Contribute to a safe and pleasant work environment
      Follow policies and procedures, including safe work practices
      Other duties as assigned


      Skills Required by the Job

      Excellent public speaking skills and ability to facilitate meetings
      Familiarity with Chinatown neighborhood and issues relevant to the
      community, with concentration on transportation and other planning issues
      (including economic development, neighborhood improvement, etc.)
      Familiarity with local government processes, ordinances, and legislation
      Familiarity with transportation issues and planning concepts,
      Ability to work independently as well as in a team structure
      Ability to be flexible and perform a variety of work activities
      Excellent written and verbal skills in English
      Strong analytical and organizational skills
      Effective negotiation and mediation skills
      Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, database, and desktop
      publishing software
      Design skills for brochures and flyers
      Marketing and outreach skills
      Capacity to attend evening meetings


      Minimum Qualifications

      Experience in transportation planning
      Experience in neighborhood planning issues in general, including areas of
      economic development, neighborhood improvement, etc.
      Proficiency with PC computer systems.
      Education:
      Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning, urban studies, geography, city
      planning, economics, or related fields, with three (3) years experience in
      neighborhood planning/organizing, transportation issues, economic
      development, advocacy/community work, city planning or related field

      -OR-
      Master’s Degree in urban planning, urban studies, geography, city
      planning, economics, or related fields, with one (1) year experience in
      neighborhood planning/organizing, transportation issues, economic
      development, advocacy/community work, city planning or related field


      Preferred Qualifications
      Ability to speak fluently in Cantonese


      Physical Requirements
      Ability to travel throughout community
      Ability to communicate clearly


      Department: Program
      Reports to: Community Planning Manager
      Salary: DOE, with excellent benefits
      Status: Full-time, Exempt
      Work Hours: General office hours, plus some nights and weekends
      Location: San Francisco's North Beach Neighborhood
