      > Job Description:
      >
      > The intern will assist with the planning and design for a bicycle and
      > pedestrian path along the BART corridor between Lake Merritt (in
      > Oakland) and Hayward
      > in the East Bay. The East Bay Greenway will provide recreation
      > opportunities
      > and alternative transportation connections in underserved
      > neighborhoods.
      > Currently, we are in the site analysis phase, gathering information
      > about the
      > site and synthesizing that information onto maps that can be used at
      > community
      > meetings.
      >
      > Main Tasks:
      >
      > 1. Map key neighborhood features from reference maps and City
      > documents
      > to
      > Neighborhood Maps. Map drawing and labeling will be in Illustrator.
      >
      > 2. Create a detailed site inventory and analysis plan for the
      > Greenway.
      > This
      > map will provide the basis for the community workshops and design
      > work.
      > The
      > site map will focus on the length of Greenway and approximately 1.5
      > blocks on
      > either side. The site map will be created using a combination of
      > Illustrator
      > and AutoCAD.
      >
      > 3. Conduct site visits to collect and verify information in the field.
      >
      > 4. Help prepare for community meetings and research trail design
      > guidelines.
      >
      > 5. Additional tasks may include administrative support, research on
      > agency
      > regulations, drafting concept level designs, mapping crime statistics
      > and
      > collision rates along the Greenway, and assisting with other design
      > and
      > community
      > outreach projects.
      >
      > Skills and Qualifications:
      >
      > The successful candidate will:
      > - Be enrolled in a degree or certificate program in landscape
      > architecture,
      > urban design, or architecture.
      > - Have hand drawing or sketching proficiency, as well experience with
      > AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
      > - Be knowledgeable about site inventory and analysis techniques as
      > well
      > as
      > the design process.
      > - Be skilled at graphically communicating a large amount of
      > information
      > in a
      > clear format.
      >
      > In addition, the following characteristics would be very valuable:
      > - Experience conducting extensive site inventory and analyses
      > - Experience with urban trails
      > - Familiarity with the communities along the proposed Greenway:
      > Oakland, San
      > Leandro, and Hayward.
      > - Ability to speak Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese, or Mandarin.
      >
      > Logistics:
      >
      > The position will be full time up to 5 weeks, depending on winter
      > break
      >
      > schedules, with the potential to continue part time during the spring
      > semester.
      >
      > The internship is for a standard 40-hour work week over winter break
      > with the
      > potential to continue with 10 hours per week during the spring
      > semester. Our
      > offices are fully accessible, and located in downtown San
      > Francisco, at
      > the
      > Montgomery Street BART Station.
