      Senior Transportation Planner – Transportation Systems & Operations (TS&O)

      Salary Range (monthly): $6,823 - $7,915 (Mid-point) - $9,006

      This position in the TS&O Section of VTA’s Development & Congestion Management Division would report to the Transportation Engineering Manager of the section.  This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of transportation system projects, studies and programs.  The TS&O Section is currently either managing or playing a key role in the following:

      • Congestion Management Program (review of traffic studies)
      • Transportation Impact Analysis (TIA) Guidelines Update
      • South County Circulation Study
      • I-880 Corridor Study
      • High Occupancy Toll Lane Demonstration Project
      • Dynamic Passenger Information Project (conducting systems engineering)
      • VTA Rapid/Bus Rapid Transit (development of bus signal priority system)
      • Countywide ITS Planning
      • Silicon Valley ITS Program (participation on steering committee)
      • I-680 Sunol Smart Carpool Lane Project (participation on management steering committee)
      • Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Project (review of traffic studies)
      • VTA Highway Program (transportation oversight on several highway studies underway)
      • Staff liaison for VTA’s Systems Operations & Management Working Group (and related working groups for ITS, ramp metering and TIA guidelines)
      • VTA participation on MTC and Caltrans advisory committees and working groups

      This position requires strong traffic operations analysis skills, the ability to manage challenging studies, and strong verbal and written communication skills.  Desired skills and knowledge are detailed in the job description.

      Above and beyond the salary, VTA also pays the employee’s regular contribution of approximately 7% to PERS.  Other elements of VTA’s generous benefit package include: a choice of health care plans, dental coverage, vision care, an employee assistance program, life insurance, and liberal holiday, vacation and sick leave.  A credit union and deferred compensation are also available to employees at their option.
