      INVITATION
You are invited to a reception for a student showing of work for the
      journalism class:
Metropolis: The Politics of Urban Growth
The U.C. Berkeley School of Journalism

      Wednesday, May 8
      6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The U.C. Berkeley School of Journalism Library
121 North Gate Hall, Euclid and Hearst Avenues

      The student works includes:
      * Software billionaire and recluse Paul Allen has taken on a new role as a
      downtown Seattle developer.
      * Los Angeles is working to turn around its terminal environmental legacy
      with progressive new water policies.
      * A tax-cutting crusader in Seattle has started a Prop 13 legacy in the
      Northwest.
      * Houston is facing up to its fate as an un-regulated sprawling boom town
with an attempt to adopt smart growth.
      * What led to the death of an American neighborhood in Houston?
      * Globalization in Los Angeles through its booming port has suffocated the
      neglected community of San Pedro.
      * A glimmer of hope in South Phoenix could change the image of this shunned
      community in the desert.

We look forward to seeing you.

Bradley Inman, Susan Rasky, Bob Calo and the entire class.
