      Job Description:
      Purpose of Position: San Francisco CARD (Community Agencies Responding to
      Disaster) is a collaboration of non-profits committed to the well being of
      San Francisco’s vulnerable populations.  Together we educate and train
      non-profits to ensure the safety and continued care of their clients in
      disasters.  The Disaster Preparedness Coordinator will assist non-profits
      and other community-based organizations in how to be
      better prepared to provide services to their clients after a disaster.  In
      addition, this position will staff the SF CARD disaster phone line (located
      in the Office of Emergency Services) during the response phase after a
      declared disaster.

      --Promote disaster planning for non-profit agencies in San Francisco
      --Actively recruit non-profit agencies in San Francisco to take advantage of
      SF CARD services
      --Evaluate and help develop & update agency disaster plans
      --Encourage agency disaster training (e.g., Fire Department, Neighborhood
      Emergency Response Team (NERT), American Red Cross,
      CPR/First Aid, ham radio networks, etc.)
      --Train agencies and boards including assisting agencies in disaster hazard
      --Help agencies build neighborhood partnerships for coordination of
      resources and response
      --Organize and facilitate monthly multi-agency disaster education meetings,
      workshops, and conferences
      --Provide SF CARD resources and support to community disaster events
      organized by collaborating agencies
      --Build and maintain SF CARD relationships with major response organizations
      as well as member agencies

      --Regularly reports to the SF CARD Chair & Executive Committee
      --Monitor and respond to voicemail and email in a timely manner
      --Regularly provide updates for SFCARD website as well as SF CARD’s disaster
      plan template
      --Attend and provide administrative support for all SF CARD meetings
      --Prepare and distribute SF CARD monthly newsletter via email and website
      --Work with SF CARD Steering Committee to develop and maintain CARD’s
      disaster activation plan
      --Attend designated community disaster meetings
      --Maintain SF CARD membership records & database


      --Bachelor’s Degree in related field or three years of community
      organizing/outreach; experience with disaster preparedness planning or
      helping vulnerable populations preferred
      --Creative, energetic, and detail-oriented individual with strong
      interpersonal and administrative skills
      --Well-organized, self-starter willing to take direction
      --Work well both independently and in a team-driven environment
      --Willingness to find creative solutions to problems and adapt to a changing
      work environment
      --Demonstrated ability to manage, organize and motivate others and to
      communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
      --Ability to work and interact well with individuals from a variety of
      socioeconomic backgrounds and culturally diverse environments
      --Experience with community organizing, program development, event planning
      and quantitative as well as qualitative program evaluation
      --Computer proficiency, including spreadsheet and database management
      --Ability and willingness to travel throughout San Francisco to attend to SF
      CARD business
      --Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle preferred

      Time: 20 hours per week with possibility of up to 20 more
      Pay: $20.00 per hour plus expenses
