      Hi Everybody,

BATLUC is working on a South Bay Housing Study that is set to go to print by
the end of May. A portion of the report examines the feasibility of using
underutilized parking lots at office parks for housing and in areas where
the office park has not been built encouraging employers to incorporate this
"workforce housing" into the plans. This is where you come in. We have
flushed out the proposal and developed a series of policy recommendations
for cities to encourage this type of workforce housing development. The
part that we need now is an inventory of available land. We are not looking
for anything too specific but more of a rough estimate or range of acreage
that could be housing instead of parking lots. Do you have the time and the
skills to help us with the land inventory or do you know if this has been
done or somebody who would be interested in working on this?

One idea for the methodology is to use the satellite images on
www.mapquest.com and follow the light rail lines to find large parking lots
around the line and then use hand mapping to make an outline of parking
areas and then estimate the volume or a range of polygons created. This can
be done for existing office parks and parking lots and plots that are zoned
      for office parks.

Thank you! You can contact me for more information and details.

PS - Irvin can you forward this to the Urban Planning Coalition?
