      Looking for Three Great Planners

      Berkeley is one of the most interesting and diverse
      cities in the Bay Area
      and is seeking three responsible, innovative and
      progressive planners for
      its Land Use Planning Division. The Division is
      responsible for both policy
      development and project implementation with 21 staff
      that includes 17
      professional planners. The Department and its staff
      are recent APA award
      winners for the City's implementation of infill
      housing development. There
      are numerous exciting policy and project efforts
      currently underway.

      Principal/Senior Planner (DOQ)
      Downtown Area Plan Project Manager
      The City (in partnership with the University of
      California) is preparing a
      new Downtown Area Plan. The plan development process
      is expected to take 4
      years (including managing the preparation of an EIR)
      and will address land
      use, urban design, historic resource, transportation
      (incorporating Bus
      Rapid Transit and BART), economic development and
      University development.
      The City is seeking a full time staff planner/urban
      designer with
      significant experience in plan preparation and urban
      design to lead this
      exciting effort. Position/Salary: DOQ. Position is
      available immediately.

      Senior Planner
      Policy Development
      The City is seeking a highly responsible and
      accountable senior level
      planner that will lead and manage key project and
      policy efforts. A
      significant level of project management and CEQA
      experience are also
      required. This position will be responsible for key
      policy projects
      including the City's upcoming regional housing needs
      assessment and Housing
      Element update, South and West Berkeley Plan
      re-evaluation, and other policy
      and programmatic efforts. All of these efforts will
      have significant public
      process components and technical research and analysis
      requirements.

      Associate Planner
      Policy Development - Half-Time, NTE Six Months
      This is a responsible position that is short term and
      flexible. Tasks
      include project management for General Plan and Zoning
      Ordinance Amendments,
      including developing amendment language, CEQA
      analyses, staff reports,
      presentations to the public, Planning Commission and
      City Council, and
      internal City of Berkeley coordination and training,
      as well as working
      internally with project planners and other city staff
      as necessary to
      respond to citizen requests.
