      Job Description:

      The Center for Environmental Health (CEH), an Oakland, CA based nonprofit
      that works to prevent pollution and reduce the use of toxic chemicals, is
      seeking an Associate Director.

      CEH is a dynamic and supportive organization, committed to social and
      environmental justice. The Associate Director is responsible for working
      with the Executive Director on all matters pertaining to the management of
      the organization, including supervising a staff of ten, fundraising, and
      representing the organization publicly.  The Associate Director is also
      involved in CEH’s programmatic work to reduce the use of toxic chemicals.
      In the Executive Director's absence, the Associate Director shall assume
      responsibility for directing the organization.

      The Associate Director will work with the Executive Director and other staff
      on all facets of the organization, including:

      I.  Organizational Management:  work with Executive Director on
      organizational management; collaborate with, mentor, and supervise staff and
      interns; coordinate hiring of staff and interns; maintain oversight of
      general office operations; act as liaison with Board and serve on Board

      II.  Fundraising: collaborate with Executive Director and other staff on
      writing grant proposals, identifying projects for funders, producing
      promotional materials, cultivating and following up with major donors,
      identifying foundation leads, cultivating relationships with foundation
      staff and boards.

      III.  Organizational Promotion and Outreach: public speaking, media work,
      networking with allies.

      IV.  Program: The Associate Director will participate in CEH’s existing
      programmatic work according to her/his expertise and the needs of the
      organization.  Examples include working cooperatively with the most
      environmentally responsible members of industry to implement pollution
      prevention strategies, implementing public interest litigation, supporting
      communities engaged in environmental justice work, or environmental health

      Qualifications Required
      •Extensive experience in nonprofit organizations, both programmatically and
      managerially, preferably in the fields of environmental health and/or
      •Highest caliber communication and collaboration skills, including
      experience with collaborative decision-making; strong writing and public
      speaking skills; and ability to collaborate with diverse allies and staff.
      •Team player, natural leader, sense of humor and grace under pressure.

      Qualifications preferred
      •Extensive personal network of Bay Area/ CA allies working in environmental
      health and justice.
      •Personal network of funders, both foundations and individuals.
      •Personal network of media contacts.
