      Please respond to

Are you Ready to Be The Change?

      Dear Friends,

Because it's increasingly clear that solutions to environmental challenges will have to start at the local level, Acterra is initiating a new leadership training program to hone the skills of emerging leaders.

Called "Be the Change," this year-long program will start in September 2005, and focus on environmental and social sustainability within San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.  Be the Change will offer lectures, workshops, student projects, discussions and field trips in an exciting year-long program of meeting new people and learning how to create change in the situations where you live, work, worship or play.  The program will also provide mentoring and an opportunity to practice new skills in a self-selected project.

The class will include 25 to 30 diverse participants, promising leaders selected from community organizations, trade union members, businesspersons, scientists, educators, and social activists - and we hope YOU will consider applying!

You can find out more details - and an application form - at

Applications are due on June 15, and class participants will be selected after an interview process in late June.  Tuition for the year is $1600, and the program will provide scholarship assistance for people with need. The program will meet at different locations during the year, requiring one full day and one evening session a month, along with project time and optional activities.

If you have questions, please contact Kay O'Neill, Be the Change Program Director, at kayo@... or (650) 962-9876 x346

Acterra invites you to "Be the Change" -- and commit to a year of meeting new people and working together to create innovative approaches to how we humans live on this Earth and with each other.

We look forward to hearing from you!

      Debbie Mytels
      Associate Director, Acterra
