      The City of Pinole invites applicants for a Planning Department Intern position in its Development Services Department.  The City is seeking graduate or undergraduate student interns to provide assistance with a wide range of planning, redevelopment or city management projects.



      $12-14/hour, DOQ (under review)



      30-40 hours/week through Summer 2005; possible 16-20 hours (flex)/week through Fall 2006


      Examples of Duties

      The following programs and projects are available for participation and/or development.

               New Development.  Provide assistance to various development projects throughout the City, including City-sponsored proposed downtown mixed-use projects and private development proposals.

               Research for Revisions to Zoning Ordinance. Conduct research via the Internet and the telephone on several different projects, such as: establishing a floor area ratio (FAR) for residential structures; revising definitions in the Zoning Ordinance; and updating the Conditions of Approval.

               General Plan Update.  Assist with the initial phase of the General Plan update process. Assist in the preparation of the Request for Proposals (RFP), schedule this item before the City Council for review of the RFP, and interview and rank the firms that respond to the RFP. May include creating a workplan for the General Plan update process. 

               Update Handouts. Help revise or create new handouts for the Planning, Building and Public Works Divisions. Work with the Information Systems Administrator to have this information on the city�s website.

      The City of Pinole has worked with previous interns on professional reports and master�s theses; many of the City�s projects are suitable for development as academic projects.  City interns gain valuable experience in project management and redevelopment practice.  Previous interns have gone onto full-time employment with, among other agencies, the cities of San Jose, Berkeley, Pleasanton, Pleasant Hill, San Leandro, and Pinole.
