      Job Description:
      SUMMARY: The Executive Director is hired by the Farallones Marine
      Association (FMSA) Board of Trustees to serve
      as the chief executive officer of the Association. The Farallones Marine
      Sanctuary Association is a non-profit, cooperating association located in
      the Presidio of San Francisco that protects the resources managed by the
      Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary (GFNMS) through
      collaborative education, interpretation, outreach and monitoring. This
      position is responsible for implementation of the policies and goals
      established by the Board. Overall responsibilities include: effective
      management and supervision of all Association activities, including:
      outreach, education, monitoring, evaluation, and volunteer programs,
      contracts, the hiring and evaluation of personnel, finances, fundraising,
      and public relations.

      ? Responsible for administration of overall operation of the
      organization, including: writing proposals, ensuring contract
      obligations are met and interfacing with GFNMS contracting officers,
      reviewing and evaluating the results of contracted activities, ensuring
      continuing contractual obligations are being fulfilled; allocating
      for greater organizational effectiveness and efficiency; developing
      organizational and administrative policies for Board consideration.
      ? Responsible for the development, implementation, and
      accomplishment of the annual plan approved by the Board of
      ? Oversee the financial management of the organization,
      including the development and implementation for the annual
      budget, supervision of a finance staff person and fundraising contract
      for grant writing, sponsorships, memberships, and
      event coordination.
      ? Develop short and long-term financial plans. Meet and
      correspond with foundation staff, cultivate possible donors and
      develop earned revenue programs.
      ? Responsible for the human resources management of the
      organization, including ensuring compliance with employment
      ? Responsible for the development of marketing and
      plans and materials and planning events with the support of GFNMS
      ? Collaborate with government and non-government
      to further the mission of the Association. Act as the primary liaison with
      GFNMS and National Marine Sanctuary System.
      ? Provide information, advice, and counsel to the Board in
      creation of policies and management of contract and other
      ? Support all activities associated with the Board, including
      meeting schedules, locations, development of agenda, and meeting
      ? Responsible for supervision of all staff and legal
      of contract staff including: interview and hire administrative
      staff, coordinate hiring of contract staff, assign and direct work of

      ? Education and/or Experience: A college degree and a
      of seven years of responsible administrative experience, at least five of
      which shall have been in a supervisory and managerial capacity.
      ? Language Skills: Ability to analyze, and interpret
      reports, legal documents, technical procedures, and governmental
      regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and contract
      communicate effectively in both written and oral form; and, effectively
      present information to GFNMS management and staff, the community, and
      of Trustees
      ? Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the
      principles and techniques of contract administration and
      negotiation, non-profit administration, fiscal and organizational
      management, principles and practices of marketing and public relations.

      Ability to plan, direct and coordinate activities; negotiate and
      contracts; identify and engage consultants as needed; work with government
      agencies and other organizations; exhibit independent judgment in the
      development, implementation and evaluation of plans, procedures and
