Internship Opportunity - Urban Planning Students

A team of researchers at the Mineta Institute is looking for a San Jose
State University planning student to assist them during the months of
February, March and April. The overall goal of the project is to explore
the receptivity to innovative land use and transportation planning concepts
      at the local level.

A key element of this research project is a survey about local planning
strategies being distributed to all city and county planning directors in
California. The intern will be asked to assist the research team in
conducting as well as in compiling and assessing the results of this survey.

      Tasks will include:
      (1) Phoning and emailing recipients to improve the response rate to the
      smart growth survey.
      (2) Assembling California Department of Finance population data to create a
database that will be used to identify jurisdictions by size, project rate
of growth and possibly other categories.
      (3) Compiling and evaluating the survey results including compilation and
assessment by categories in the data base created from the Department of
      Finance population information.

Needed skills include experience with general computer functions with
specific experience with the use of Microsoft Excel. Access to a computer
      is preferred.

The amount of time expected to be spent on this work will be approximately
15 hours a week. The hourly rate of pay for this work ranges from
      $13-$16/hour depending on experience.

Interested students should immediately notify Ken Schreiber,
      krsplan@....
