      Job Description:
      The South Bay Field Representative will lead advocacy efforts to stop
      and encourage smart growth in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. To
      accomplish these goals, the South Bay Field Representative will run
      Greenbelt Alliance's San Jose office as the local center for land use
      advocacy. The South Bay Field Representative will provide leadership on
      critical efforts to protect farmland and open space, encourage affordable
      infill development, and invest in effective transportation solutions in
      Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

      The South Bay Field Representative will report to the Field Director and
      work closely with the entire Greenbelt Alliance team, including central
      staff in San Francisco, volunteers and allies in Santa Clara and San Mateo
      counties, and other field representatives throughout the Bay Area. See

      The ideal candidate will have proven experience in grassroots campaign
      organizing, policy advocacy, persuasive communication, and land use

      Key Responsibilities
      Organizing and Outreach: Recruit and coordinate activists for specific
      campaigns and to build long term political effectiveness in local
      communities. Reach out to community organizations and the general public
      increase awareness about Greenbelt Alliance issues.

      Advocacy: Lead local campaign efforts to secure permanent protection of
      open space, creation of smart growth housing opportunities, and
      of the quality of life in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.
      Responsibilities include helping to identify campaign priorities, campaign
      planning, coalition building and direct lobbying.

      Persuasive Communication: Build relationships with local press, serve as
      key spokesperson on local land use issues, develop media campaigns with
      Greenbelt Alliance's Communications
      Director, write opinion pieces, organize media events, make public

      Management: Run the South Bay Field Office; manage volunteers and

      The South Bay Field Representative will be enthusiastic and self-motivated
      with some combination of experience in the following areas:

      ? Grassroots organizing
      ? Volunteer recruitment and management
      ? Campaign planning
      ? Building coalitions among diverse stakeholder groups
      ? Public speaking before citizen organizations and elected bodies
      ? Interacting with the media and serving as a spokesperson
      ? Writing persuasively on tight deadlines
      ? Analyzing, developing and/or implementing public policy (experience on
      land use, land conservation, urban planning and/or community development
      policy preferred)

      Bachelor's degree in Planning, Environmental Studies, Urban Studies,
      Political Science or another appropriate field required.

      Two years of grassroots organizing, public policy, urban planning and/or
      community development work experience preferred.

      Car and flexible schedule also required.

      Greenbelt Alliance is committed to a rewarding work environment. We offer
      starting salary of $31,000 to $35,000 depending on experience; a good
