      Salary: $46.80 - $56.89/hour; $8,112.00 - $9,861.00/month; $97,344.00 - $118,326.00/year The San Francisco Planning Department has an opening for a 9382 Manager of Legislative Affairs to analyze and monitor legislative issues and administrative regulations in our Legislative Affairs Division. The Legislative Affairs Division of the Planning Department reviews proposed legislative changes to the San Francisco Planning Code to ensure the Code is updated in a concise, logical and coherent manner. The division analyzes all proposed changes to the Planning Code that are introduced by the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor’s Office. The San Francisco Planning Department, under the direction of the Planning Commission, shapes the future of San Francisco by: •generating an extraordinary vision in the General Plan and neighborhood plans; •fostering exemplary design; •improving the environment; •enhancing the distinct character, culture and history of our neighborhoods and people; and •embracing our regional role and responsibility. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under general direction, the Manager of Legislative Affairs plans, administers and directs the Department’s analysis of legislative issues affecting or pertaining to the Planning Department and prepares recommendations for action; proposes amendments to Planning and other relevant Codes to address the Department’s and the City’s changing needs, including public outreach and coordination with internal and external interested parties; responds to appeals before the Board of Supervisors; and maintains relationship with relevant policy bodies, acting as the Department’s liaison to the Board of Supervisors and coordinating Departmental responses to inquiries, policy direction and/or legislative activity. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: •Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in liberal arts, English, linguistics, political science, public administration, government, law, communications, public relations or related field (Master’s degree preferred) AND •Five (5) years of verifiable experience in government relations, law, communications, public relations and/or transportation, including writing, reviewing and analyzing legislation and familiarity with grant making processes. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: •Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning or in a planning-related field or a Master’s Degree and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning or in a planning-related field. •Familiarity with the City and County of San Francisco’s legislative process. •Two (2) years of experience with Planning or Land Use legislation. •Familiarity with the Planning Code and General Plan. •Strong communication skills and the ability to work with sensitive information. •Experience supervising and evaluating subordinate personnel, including workload management, performance evaluation and mentoring.
