      Transportation Positions
      Available at the City of Palo Alto
      Transportation Engineer /
      Associate Transportation Engineer
      $66,290 - 91,704
      Transportation Engineers in Palo Alto recommend, design,
      and implement improvements to the City’s transportation
      system. Typical responsibilities include analyzing all aspects
      of traffic operations, including stop sign and signal
      warrants, intersection design, and traffic signal design and
      timing, responding to and investigating traffic circulation
      complaints from residents and business owners, performing
      traffic studies, reviewing development plans and traffic
      impact analyses of private development projects, or managing
      transportation capital projects, including contractor
      selection and project management.
      Desirable skills and experience include:
      traffic analysis and design of local and arterial streets
      traffic signal design and traffic operations
      review of traffic plans/transportation impact analyses
      transportation planning and traffic modeling
      neighborhood traffic calming
      parking analysis
      The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing projects
      and working independently. Experience working directly
      with the public, making presentations to elected and appointed
      officials, and working in local government are
      highly desirable.
      Minimum Qualifications
      Transportation Engineer:
      Requires a BS in transportation
      engineering, civil engineering, or related field, and four
      years increasingly responsible professional transportation
      engineering experience. PE certificate or Master’s degree
      in engineering may be considered in lieu of one year’s experience.
      Associate Engineer:
      Requires a BS in transportation or
      civil engineering, or related field; and two years increasingly
      responsible professional transportation engineering
      experience. PE certificate or Master’s degree in Engineering
      may be considered in lieu of one year’s experience.

      Transportation Planner /
      Associate Transportation Planner
      $62,837 - 82,428
      Transportation Planners in Palo Alto perform transportation
      studies and assist in long-term planning of
      the automobile, bicycle, and pedestrian circulation system
      and alternative modes of transportation. Typical
      responsibilities include performing transportation studies,
      reviewing development plans and traffic impact
      analyses for private development projects, monitoring
      and improving the City’s shuttle system, coordinating
      with other local and regional transit agencies, or assisting
      with Comprehensive Plan updates and other longrange
      planning efforts.
      Desirable skills and experience include:
      transportation planning and traffic modeling
      bicycle and pedestrian transportation planning
      alternative transportation planning;/transit systems
      review of development plans and transportation
      impact analyses
      neighborhood traffic calming
      transportation engineering experience preferred
      The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing projects
      and working independently. Experience working
      directly with the public, making presentations to
      elected and appointed officials, and working in local
      government are highly desirable.
