      ------------------ NPS JOB ANNOUNCEMENT ----------------------

The National Park Service is seeking a planner to work in its Pacific
Great Basin Support Office (aka "Regional Office") in Oakland. This job

will provide someone a great opportunity to play a role in determining
future directions for National Parks in this region (the Pacific Great
Basin Support Office provides management support to the National Park
      units throughout California and Nevada).

This planner will be part of a small planning staff working primarily on

Special Resource Studies / feasibility studies for potential additions
to the National Park System, and General Management Plans for existing
National Park areas. Strong writing, analytical and people skills are
all necessary, as is the ability to function productively in a
bureaucracy. We would particularly like to hire someone with the
ability to produce GIS-based maps (we primarily use ArcView software).

We're advertising this position as an interdisciplinary Outdoor
Recreation Planner / Community Planner / Landscape Architect in order to

open it to a wider range of candidates. You can apply under any or all
of those titles - whatever best fits your background. We can hire at
either the GS-09, 11, or 12 level - those levels correspond to different

amounts of experience, as well as different pay levels.

Please obtain a copy of the full vacancy announcement before you apply -

there are specific requirements for the application as well as details
of the job that aren't included in the brief summary below.

If you have questions, you can call Martha Crusius, National Park
Service, Planning & Partnerships: 510/817-1447, or the Human Resources
Office of the Pacific Great Basin Support Office, at 510/817-1343.
Please note that all National Park Service and Department of the
      Interior access to internet and e-mail has been temporarily suspended;
we hope to emerge from the stone age again soon.
