Staten Island Christmas Bird Count - 12/17/2011
- Greetings everyone,
The Staten Island Christmas Bird Count is scheduled for Saturday, December 17. Some of the regulars have confirmed that they will be participating this year, and I hope to confirm the rest over the next few days. If anyone would like to participate but doesn't have a team to go out with, let me know. The round up will be in the Staten Island Museum auditorium at 7:30 that night.
One aspect of our count that is sorely lacking is feeder watchers. If you don't care to or are not able to go out in the field all day, why not be a feeder watcher? It's easy to do, and could add some species to the count that might otherwise be missed.
The official count week is the period 3 days before and 3 days after the count. Species seen on those days (but not on the count day), still can be counted as count week birds. This is only for species; individual numbers don't count.
TIME & EFFORT
As always, when you are roaming around counting the birds, please keep track of the number of hours spent on foot and in the car, and likewise, the number of miles spent on foot and in the car.
If there are any questions about participating in the count, being a feeder watcher, territory boundaries, etc. you can call me at the museum at (718) 727-1135, or email me.
Thanks, and I hope to see you out there.
