      What: Vegan Cooking Demonstration with Allison Rivers Samson of Allison's Gourmet

      Allison Rivers Samson, owner and founder of Allison's Gourmet and author of VegNews column, Veganize It! (voted favorite column in VegNews' 2011 Veggie Awards) will teach you how to prepare simple, delicious and healthy vegan meals for yourself and your family.

      What: Oakland Veg Week night on the town

      Enjoy dinner at one of Oakland Veg Week's supporting restaurants and taste the best vegan food the other city by the Bay has to offer.

      What: Jack Norris, RD speaks about the health benefits of a plant-based diet
      When: Tuesday, April 17, 6:30 p.m.
      Where: Rockridge Branch of the Oakland Public Library, 5366 College Ave., Oakland, CA 94618

      Jack Norris, co-founder of Vegan Outreach, an RD and an author of a vegan nutrition book, Vegan For Life, will speak about the health benefits of a plant-based diet and answer your questions about vegan nutrition.

      What: Film Screening of Vegucated
      When: Thursday, April 19, 7:00 p.m.

      Vegucated is a feature-length documentary that follows three meat- and cheese-loving New Yorkers who agree to adopt a vegan diet for six weeks. Part sociological experiment, part science class, and part adventure story, Vegucated showcases the rapid and at times comedic evolution of three people who share one journey and ultimately discover their own paths in creating a kinder, cleaner, greener world, one bite at a time.

      Nathan Runkle, founder and executive director of Mercy for Animals will discuss the animal welfare implications of factory farming and how consumers can prevent cruelty to farmed animals. A nationally recognized speaker on animal advocacy, grassroots activism, and factory farming, Nathan has spoken at colleges, forums, and conferences from coast-to-coast.

We will enjoy delicious vegan food and drink and hear a special presentation by Oakland's own celebrated author on vegan cooking, Colleen Patrick-Goudreau. There will be samples from vegetarian businesses and the organizers of Oakland Veg Week will answer your questions about vegetarian eating.

      Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, The Compassionate Cook, is an author and educator dedicated to empowering people to make informed food choices, to debunking myths about veganism and animal rights, and to giving people the tools and resources they need to reflect their values of compassion and wellness in their daily lives.
