Nikhil Arora & Alex Velez "A BTTR World "Revolutionizing our Economy"
Nikhil and Alex are the founders of BTTR Ventures. BTTR Ventures is a company founded on the principles of advocating and pursuing social responsibility, progress, and sustainability. BTTR Ventures has developed a unique method to transform one of the largest organic waste streams in America - the tons of coffee grounds generated daily by coffee shops - into value add products focusing on local food production. The coffee grounds are first transformed into gourmet mushrooms, such as oyster and shiitake, which grow well on the coffee ground substrate. Post-harvest, the mycelium-enriched coffee grounds are then formed into high quality, premium compost and chicken feed for local farms.

Nikhil and Alex both recently graduated from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley in May 2009 and decided to give up and defer job offers in traditional corporate America - investment banking and consulting - in order focus on a venture that could truly revolutionize how we value our resources and make a significant impact in their communities. While at Cal, Alex not only founded a 350+ member non-profit organization, The Sage Mentorship Project, Inc. (www.sagementors.org), but was also awarded the Chancellor's 2009 Public Service Award, Mather Good Citizen Award, and was named the 2009 Cal Alumni Association Undergraduate of the Year.
