      Fresh Food from Small Spaces
      Date: March 4, 2009
      Time: 6pm - 8pm
      Location: Ferry Building, Port Commission Hearing Room, 2nd Floor,
      San Francisco
      (Market & Embarcadero)
      How local can you grow? Perfect for urban residents who don't have a
      big yard, R.J. Ruppenthal's new book Fresh Food from Small Spaces
      reveals how to harvest something delicious from any patio, balcony,
      rooftop, windowsill, or cabinet. No space is too small or too dark!
      In this interactive talk, Ruppenthal will share ideas from his book
      and show examples of gardens in compact urban locations. A
      surprising variety of food can be grown in even the most cramped and
      paved of quarters-sprouts, mushrooms, ferments and cultures,
      vegetables, even berries and fruit trees! The talk will be followed
      by a reception with some locally grown snacks. Admission is free;
      books will be available for purchase.
      Co-Sponsored by the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable
      Agriculture
      (CUESA), Garden for the Environment and SFGRO.
