Group Description

SFBUN is a group of families who unschool in the greater SF Bay Area. Our mission is to provide in-person support to unschooling families, to create opportunities for unschoolers to play together, make connections, develop close friendships, and enjoy the freedom of living an unschooled life.

SFBUN welcomes unschooling parents and their children currently living in the Bay Area - “whole life” or “radical” unschoolers, academic unschoolers, those who are transitioning into unschooling, either from school or school-at-home, those who are want to build friendships through regular face-to-face time with unschooling families, and those who just like to hang out with unschoolers!

SFBUN is a haven for unschooling families who are looking for others who believe that children should be treated with respect, who listen to and enjoy being with their kids, and who understand that power over children is not necessary for learning.

We want people to be sure before they join SFBUN that what they are looking for is unschooling support from Bay Area unschoolers (as opposed to just general homeschooling support). If you’re new to unschooling, or not sure what unschooling is, we ask that before joining SFBUN, you read and learn as much as you can to see if unschooling and SFBUN are a good fit for your family. Some examples include http://joyfullyrejoycing.com/ and http://sandradodd.com/unschooling.

If you are interested in joining SFBUN, please click "Join Group". You will automatically receive a questionnaire from us (look in your spam folder if you don't see it very soon). You'll need to fill out and return the questionnaire before your membership is finalized. If you have questions, please email us at sfbun-owner@yahoogroups.com
