What we need to do is winnow these lists down to 4 or 5 films that we can vote on for our November screening. We did decide to do a classic (i.e.: good) film

Re: SDVSF in November What we need to do is winnow these lists down to 4 or 5 films that we can vote on for our November screening.

We did decide to do a classic (i.e.: good) film for November, and we specifically discussed the first one below:

          1) Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964)

          2) War of the Worlds (1953 George Pal).

Lets pick a couple more titles and I’ll get a poll set up by this weekend.

By the way, here’s a list of what we’ve screened to date (if you know of any that are out of order or missing, please let me know and I’ll get that updated):

      Gerry,

Here’s a list of suggestions (of widely varying quality) that might be worth considering for upcoming vintage science fiction showings.

      • You might have shown a few of them already (blame my bad memory, or maybe I missed that weekend), but most of the titles ought to be ‘new.’
      • The link after each title takes you to the IMDB page for that film
      • I’ve seen all of these at least once, but I saw most of them on TV when I was in grade school or junior high.
      • I don’t know how widely available they might be (though I have a DVD of ‘Things to Come’).
      • The Japanese ones at the end of the list I saw with dubbed-in English.  The American release of ‘Godzilla’ includes some extra footage featuring Raymond Burr (as a reporter named Steve Martin!) who comments on the story.  The original Japanese version (Gojira) has no such character.  It’s a more serious anti-nuclear film and not as cheesy as the horde of sequels & remakes it spawned.

                                                                                          Ray

Oh, ‘Missile to the Moon’ is the one I had confused with ‘Catwomen.’  I’d seen ‘Missile’ at least once, but I don’t think I had seen ‘Catwomen’ before, though the stories are nearly the same.  ‘World Without End’ is on your list of Mars Movies.
