This Is Anthropology
To SCOPA members
From: Alvin Wolfe, Distinguished University Professor Emeritus, USF Anthropology.
SCOPA members will be interested in this new web site supported by AAA:
According to Professor Liz Bird, interim chair of the USF Anthropology Department, USF students have taken another step toward educating the public about what anthropologists do here and around the world. Now, for further response Florida's Governor Rick Scott's negative comments about Anthropology, you are invited to share your anthro stories on this new forum:
Prof Bird writes: "There's no doubt that this national initiative would not have happened without the passion of USF students, who set out to tell Florida and beyond what anthropology really is. This now gives all of us tools to help explain who we are, and why the world actually does need more anthropologists."
You can plot your educational institution, other work affiliations, and study sites on the mapthink of each of those map pins as opportunities to share why your work (and anthropology!) is important. This map is searchable, and as it grow, we hope it will serve as a resource for students, faculty and others to find anthropologists in particular subfields, as well as geographic and topical areas. Once you submit a profile you will receive an email with a link that allows you to edit your profile any time in the futureso your profile can grow with you!
The site targets the general public and students in particular (high school, undergraduates) to introduce the field of anthropology. So please, take a look, put your work on the map, and feel free to send us your comments and suggestions about the site.
It looks like a good opportunity for Practicing Anthroplogists as well.
