Tampa, FL: Town n Country is a fusion of Latino and other cultures and we are
going to celebrate our diversity through the arts, food, music and of course
dancing on Friday, October 16, 2009 from 5-8 PM at the Hanley Plaza, 6704
Hanley Road, Tampa FL 33634. Maxima 92.5FM and 11 organizations participating,
with our major sponsors being Bank of America, Suncoast Schools Federal Credit
Union and CiCi’s Pizza.
Parents are contributing ethnic foods from their home countries and their
children, FICS’ Multicultural Family Center participants, will perform Latin
Drums, capoeira and more! Art from the youth and local artists is for sale and
USF’s Latin Fraternities and Sororities are performing as well! Our very own
Rafael “El Shakiro” will sing and host a sing-a-long of Latin hits.
This event is also FICS’ contribution to National Latino AIDS Awareness
(NLAAD), celebrated every year on 10-15-09 to draw attention to the
disproportionate risk of infection within the Latino population. As such, we
are offering free confidential HIV/AIDS testing all day from 11 AM to 8 PM.
The Florida Institute for Community Studies (FICS) opened the FICS Multicultural
Family Center in 2005 in partnership with the Town n Country Community Advisory
Board to fill gaps and build on the area’s strengths.
Please join us in meeting our mission of partnering with communities across
Florida to help them achieve their goals through research, services, education
and training. We are always looking for new partnerships and volunteers. Join
