Department of Agriculture Announces WIC Hispanic
Breastfeeding Promotion and Education Project
Deadline: August 15, 2005
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Faith-Based and Community Initiative has announced the WIC Hispanic Breastfeeding Promotion and Education Project, a new grant opportunity available through USDA's Food and Nutrition Service.
USDA's Food and Nutrition Service will provide a competitive cooperative agreement award of $400,000 for this new initiative to develop a culturally sensitive, culturally appropriate breastfeeding promotion project targeted to Hispanic women and families who participate in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
The intent of this project is to develop breastfeeding educational materials and tools that specifically target the barriers to breastfeeding for Hispanic WIC partici- pants. The project is part of a continual effort to increase breastfeeding initiation and duration rates among all population groups served by the WIC Program.
This opportunity is available to a variety of organiza- tions, including faith-based and community groups.
For more information on the opportunity, including an application form, see the USDA Web site.
