      Hi all

I wanted to share this article with you. I am appalled! Janelle and I are going to write a response to it. The fact that it is written in a medical journal in 2005 is alarming, especially for those of us that work with immigrant populations.

      Take Care, Dina

My reply was in response to Joana Ramos' post yesterday. But attached is the article that she was referring to. I'm thinking I might use this article with a student group and work with them to deconstruct it and do some fact checking. It's a great article to use to teach critical thinking, as there is little critical thinking demonstrated in the piece.

Perhaps a letter to editor is in order. While I've seen some questionable articles in many a peer-reviewed journal, this piece just takes the cake. Besides the offensive content, I just cannot believe that the sloppy "scholarship" and very loose interpretation of the "data" that is cited actually passed the "double-blind peer review"
that articles are supposed to be subject to, at least according to their author instructions.

But I suppose we can't expect much from a journal that publishes (alongside this lengthy anti-immigrant screed) "Legal Implications of a Link Between Abortion and Breast Cancer." Perhaps the editors of this journal like to be "provocative", a la Lawrence Summers.
