      JUNE 12 2014

      530 PM

      State Leaders To Address
      Upcoming Disability Service Changes
      in June 12 Public Forum

Broken Wing Farm has organized a public forum to help keep families informed about upcoming changes within the SC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN), Medicaid waivers, and other matters that may impact many individuals eligible for services through one of South Carolina’s waivers serving special populations.

Come hear from SC-DHHS Director Anthony Keck and SC-DDSN Director Dr. Beverly Buscemi on Thursday, June 12, at County Council Chambers beginning at 5:30 pm. (301 University Ridge, Greenville 29601) Dr. Buscemi will speak first, and Dr. Keck will speak at approximately 6:30pm. Afterwards, there will be a few minutes for questions from the audience.

The town hall is to learn more about the new laws and requirements dealing with workshops ,billable hour changes ,and group home changes plus other issues. Many of the changes have been prompted from the Olmstead Act. In a landmark interpretation of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), the Supreme Court decided that people with disabilities have a right to receive care in the most integrated setting appropriate and that unnecessary institutionalization violates the ADA. All states must now comply with the decision.
