The commenist period material for a flexable under suport was braded or
twisted Horse hair. The splendid linnen headdresses of the Netherlands
Dutch, dozens of 16th cen English and Frence headdresses of every shape and
size, not to mention all standing ruffs used Horse hair in there
construction. There is no question about it's use, the question is where to
      get it!?!

      The answer is, YOU DONT!

Heavyduity fishingline has all the nessessary qualitys and it comes in more
sizes than the real tail material without the oder of Equine effluent. the
bigger sports and fishing stores will even sell it by the yard for mear
      pennies!!!

If you insist on the real thing you can purchas it not to extreemly
expensively at a fly fishing supply store.
